1. Ampicillin 500 mg capsules  1 x 4 x 10
2. Panadol Advance 2 tablets up to 4 times daily
3. Gurgle with salt and water solution (don’t swallow it ) 3 times daily
4. Soft food and warm drinks

Ampicillin :

• 500mg cap, 500mg vial, 250mg vial, 1g vial, 250mg /5ml suspension

Therapeutic indication and dose :

Genitourinary Tract Infections (Excluding Gonorrhea)

• <40 kg: 50 mg/kg/day IV/IM divided q6-8hr
• ≥40 kg: 500 mg PO/IV/IM q6hr

Gastrointestinal Tract Infections

• <40 kg: 50 mg/kg/day IV/IM divided q6-8hr
• ≥40 kg: 500 mg IV/IM q6hr; larger doses may be necessary in severe or chronic infection

Urinary Tract Infection (ampicillin-susceptible Enterococcus; Off-label)

• 1-2 g IV q4-6hr with or without an aminoglycoside

Gonorrhea

• 3.5 g IV administered once simultaneously with 1 g of probenecid

Respiratory Tract Infections

≥40 kg

• 250-500 mg PO q6hr
• 250-500 mg IV/IM q6hr

<40 kg

• 25 to 50 mg/kg/day IV or IM divided q6-8hr

Bacterial Meningitis/Septicemia

• 150-200 mg/kg/day IV divided q6-8hr; initiate with IV infusion; may continue with IM injections if preferred; range 6-12 g/day 

Group B Streptococcus (Off-label)

• Maternal dose for neonatal prophylaxis
• 2 g IV initially, followed by 1 g q4hr until delivery

Listeria Infection (Off-label)

• 2 g IV q4hr

Contraindications:

• History of hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics (e. g. Ampicillin, penicillin, cephalosporin).

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding :

• When antibiotic therapy is required during pregnancy and lactation, Ampicillin may be considered appropriate. 

Common side effects:

• Hypersensitivity reactions: Skin rash, pruritus and urticarial, Purpura
• Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
• Swelling of the tongue

Panadol Advance

Ingredients:

 Each film-coated tablet contains:

• Paracetamol 500mg. 

Panadol Advance:

Is effective for:

• Muscle Pain.
• Colds & Influenza.
• Period Pain.
• Rheumatic Pain.
• Pain of Osteoarthritis.
• For oral use only.

Dose: Adults:

• 2 tablets every 4 hours as required.
• not more than 8 tablets in 24 hours.

Children (6 – 12 years):

• ½ to 1 tablet every 4 hours as required.
• No more than 4 tablets should be taken in 24 hours.
• Not suitable for children under 6 years.
